Decathlon Sports Store LED Lighting Upgrade – Ho Chi Minh City

Decathlon Sports Store LED Lighting Upgrade – Ho Chi Minh City

Project Overview

FusionBrite partnered with Decathlon Vietnam to illuminate their newest flagship store in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. After evaluating multiple lighting proposals, Decathlon selected FusionBrite’s 195 lm/W linear LED system for its unmatched energy efficiency and superior visual merchandising capabilities. The installation of 1.5m 50W fixtures transformed the 2,200 sqm retail space, earning high praise from the client for its brightness and quality.

Background

Decathlon, a global leader in sporting goods retail, opened a new flagship store in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City. The store features a wide range of products, from technical hiking gear to apparel and footwear. The primary requirement for the lighting system was to accurately represent product colours while minimizing operational costs in Vietnam’s competitive retail market.

Prior to selecting FusionBrite, the store considered:

  • Standard T8 LED Batten Retrofits: Lower initial cost but poor light distribution and colour quality.
  • Conventional Panel Lights: Uniform but uninspiring, failing to highlight merchandise effectively.
  • Competitor Linear Systems: 70W power consumption with lower efficacy (140-160 lm/W) and shorter warranties.

Challenge

The project presented three specific challenges:

  1. Visual Merchandising: Decathlon’s brand relies on vibrant, accurate colour representation. The lighting needed a CRI > 90 to make sportswear pop and attract customers.
  2. Energy Efficiency vs. Brightness: Vietnam’s hot climate puts pressure on HVAC systems. Reducing lighting wattage without sacrificing illuminance (lux) was critical.
  3. Client Confidence: As a new entrant to the Vietnamese market, FusionBrite needed to prove that a 195 lm/W system could outperform established competitors in a side-by-side comparison.

Solution

Following a successful on-site demonstration, Decathlon approved FusionBrite’s Ultra-High Efficacy Linear LED System.

Why Decathlon Chose FusionBrite Over 70W Competitors

The 70W competitor fixtures would have consumed 40% more energy. By combining 195 lm/W efficacy with intelligent motion sensors, FusionBrite delivered:

  1. Lower Wattage: 50W vs 70W per fixture.
  2. Smart Dimming: Lights dim to 10% in unoccupied zones, reducing effective power consumption to an average of 15W per fixture during operating hours.
  3. Superior Light Quality: Higher CRI ensured products looked their best.

Results

The installation was completed ahead of schedule, and the results were immediately visible to both staff and customers.

Why 195 lm/W Matters for Retail in Vietnam

In Vietnam’s retail sector, lighting accounts for up to 30% of a store’s electricity consumption. By choosing a 195 lm/W system:

  • Reduced Cooling Load: Lower wattage generates less heat, reducing air conditioning costs in Ho Chi Minh City’s tropical climate.
  • Enhanced Shopping Experience: High CRI lighting increases product appeal, directly impacting sales conversions.
  • Sustainability Goals: Decathlon reinforces its global commitment to reducing carbon footprints.

Why This Matters for Sports Retail

Sports retail lighting must balance colour accuracy, energy efficiency, and flexibility. For Decathlon Vietnam, the upgrade was not just a cost-saving measure—it became a visual merchandising advantage. The 195 lm/W system ensured that every product looked its best while keeping operational costs under control.
